Have you heard about the risks of today’s household cleaners? Unfortunately, the products used to clean your home could be poisoning you, as well as those you love.

According to the American Lung Association, many of our common household cleaning products contain dangerous chemicals and toxins.

The most harmful ingredients used in these products are known to cause severe health problems. In fact, certain ingredients can potentially even lead to death.

Sounds pretty scary, right?

It’s no wonder that many people, including many cleaning companies in Melbourne, are opting to use DIY natural cleaning products instead. Do-it-yourself household cleaners can be just as effective as store-bought products, but without sharing the risks of their toxic ingredients.

Read on to learn how to create safe, hard-working DIY household cleaning products that’ll make your home sparkle and shine!

Safe And Effective DIY Natural Cleaning Products

Believe it or not, it’s possible to clean your house from top to bottom without relying on a single chemical.

What’s even better?

Just because you choose supplies that contain natural ingredients doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice a clean home. Natural cleaning products ensure that your home is healthy and clean.

Several of the most effective natural cleaners aren’t hard to find, either. You probably have some of the best ones already tucked away in your pantry or cabinets.

Here are a few of our favourite natural products for a squeaky-clean home that won’t harm your household!

9 Essential Ingredients to Create Naturally-Effective Cleaning Supplies

Before you get started, you’ll need to make sure that you have some basic ingredients on hand.

The following 9 ingredients can be used to whip up all the supplies you’ll need to clean your home’s floors, walls, countertops, and even its’ crooks, and crannies.

1. Baking Soda

Baking soda is great alone for scouring countertops and cleaning smudges off the surfaces of cabinets and walls. All you need is a damp sponge to get the job done.

You can also mix it with one or two additional ingredients listed below to make more powerful cleaning potions.

For example, mixed with non-gel toothpaste, baking soda can clear away water rings from wooden furniture. Mix three-quarters of a cup with one tablespoon of Kosher salt and one tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide to make a strong stain remover that powers out stubborn sweat stains.

2. Lemon Juice

Want a dish cleaner that destroys grease? Or, how about a bathroom product that annihilates mould?

Look no further than the fruit aisle. Lemon juice is not only perfect for stubborn cleaning jobs, but it smells great, too.

3. Essential Oils

Essential oils are all the rage these days due to their magical healing powers and extreme versatility. But what a lot of fans don’t realise is that these natural aromatic gems are great for cleaning, too.

Add a touch to warm soap and water for a basic cleaner that smells heavenly. Mix in loads of laundry for fragrant towels and dishcloths. Or, use alone to polish metal and make wooden furniture shine.

4. Borax Powder

The jury is still out over the safety of Borax powder. However, for a super-duper cleaning agent, the risks are pretty low compared to other store-bought brands.

Borax can be used to clean tough soap scum off of tubs and tile. It’s also a great laundry booster. And, when mixed with water, it can be used to clean just about any hard surface.

5. Olive Oil

Another great polisher is this cooking staple. It can be used to clean old-fashioned cast-iron cookware. And, it’s a good alternative to essential oils for dusting and polishing if scents tend to upset your allergies.

6. Vinegar

Wipe mirrors and windows clean with white vinegar. White or apple cider vinegar is good for cleaning glass, linoleum, hardwood and more.

7. Castille Soap

Castille soap is gentler than the chemicals routinely found in soaps and detergents that you buy at the store.

Mix equal parts of liquid Castille soap with warm water for non-toxic dishwasher detergent. Or, mix one cup of liquid Castille soap and 3 tablespoons of water to make detergent for washing dishes by hand.

8. Vodka

Add one-and-a-half cups of water to a half cup of vodka and one tablespoon of the above-described dishwashing liquid. Mix the solution together and pour into a spray bottle.

Spray stone or marble countertops down with the mixture and wipe clean using a damp sponge. Afterwards, spray with clean water. Finish the job by wiping the entire area with a dry cloth.

9. Kosher Salt

In addition to cleaning kitchen countertops, kosher salt can be combined with a tablespoon of olive oil to clean cast iron skillets, cookware, and scratch-proof metal utensils and tools.

This cleaning solution is especially effective at removing lime and rust stains. And, it’s great for dirty, hard-to-remove gunk and muck on skillets and tools.
