A busy schedule, appointments and the constant stream of social gatherings frequently mean that our homes unfortunately end up neglected. Although many people have experienced this, We here at Sparkle and Shine believe that it is never a good idea to sacrifice the things that really matter in your life.

Upwey is a residential suburb in hilly surrounds 34 km. east-southeast of Melbourne and 2km. west of Belgrave. Until the turn of the century Upwey did not have a separate identity. Upwey is a residential suburb in hilly surrounds 34 km. east-south-east of Melbourne and 2 km. west of Belgrave. Upwey was part of the Parish of Scoresby and the Parish of Narree Worren and as such known by those names during the 1800s. After several ship masts were removed from the gully in 1850, Upwey was known by the name Mast Gully. (Mast Gully Creek and Mast Gully Road remain).

John Ferguson was the first known white settler in Upwey. In 1870, he settled in Upwey (then called Ferntree Gully). He was a coach builder, with properties in Collins Street and Wellington Parade. There were also other residential properties in Oakleigh or Elwood. Together with his three sons John, Samuel and Archibald, he ran cattle on his farm. He had approximately 600 acres covering the present Upwey township as well as land on both sides of Morris Road and Glenfern Road. His homestead was originally named Glenlissa. Later, it was renamed Quamby, then Glenlucia. The house is still standing today at 28 Birdwood Avenue. The Ferguson homestead was purchased by Misses Tullidge in 1897. It was the Tullidge sisters who denoted the area Upwey, after the English village Upwey on the River Wey. They persuaded the Victorian Railways to approve a stopping place near their house, and the name Upwey was given to it. The name was adopted by common usage, the Upwey Church of England being built in 1904 (now in the neighbouring locality of Tecoma).

Henry Morris chose 300 acres between Monbulk Creek & Ferny Creek, with the eastern boundary being the road named Morris Road. (see 1880 map). This land was possibly selected as early as 1855, but definitely before 1872. He later selected an additional 80 acres of land that adjoining the Monbulk creek and adjacent to today’s Birdsland Reserve on 10 January 1872. Morris called his home View Hill Farm. Later when it was sold to J Pettigrew in the 1920s, it was renamed Eloera. You can still see the Eloera Homestead at 265 to 279. Glenfern Road. It was originally located on the south-west corner of today’s Morris Road (towards Ferntree Gully). This road runs from Ferny Creek to its north and Napoleon Road to its south. (See 1880 map). The eastern boundary of the property was formed by today’s Morris Road. His property was bordered by the Monbulk Creek, Lysterfield Road, and Glenfern Road. This property was originally tea-tree swampland that covered the creek flats. He farmed potatoes on the Napoleon Road side of the property.
John Zevenboom purchased 82 acres of crown land in Upwey on 21 March 1876. He named the property Kooringal. According to the seller, the property had $1105 at the time it was sold. This indicates that it was likely to have been occupied before the sale. Callanan was originally the only way he could access his property.

William Dean purchased 80 acres crown land on 24 Aug 1875. He named the property Forest Park. It had probably been occupied prior to the purchase date as it was said to have $555 pounds of improvements at the time of the sale. In 1903, William Dean sold Forest Park to John Griffiths, the Melbourne Team Merchant. He later bought additional land in the region. On 17 October 1917, Mr John Griffiths purchased 11 acres of land fronting on to Morris Road and Glenfern Road for 17 pounds an acre.

What will a standard cleaning service include?

Every standard clean that we do is a whole house clean covering all areas including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, lounge & living rooms, laundry. You can choose to include add-ons to your clean such as oven cleaning, cleaning inside the fridge, and carpet cleaning and a range of other add-ons. What if I only want parts of my house cleaned?

In our booking form you can select to remove rooms from the clean if you dont want them included.
If your house is 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms select this initially, then tick the Part House Cleaning Only check box. You can then choose areas of you house you want to remove from the service.

Do I need to be present during the clean?

No you don't need to be home during the service.

Some customers do like to be home for the whole clean, some prefer to meet their cleaning professional first then get them to lock up when they are done.

As long as our cleaners have clear instructions on how to gain access into your home, we will take care of the rest. Many of our customers prefer to schedule their clean during the workday, so they can come home to a sparkling clean house.

Can I cancel anytime or is it an ongoing contract?

There are no lock in contracts with Sparkle and Shine. You are free to cancel or reschedule whenever you want so long as its not within 48 hours of a booking.

Last minute cancellations and reschedules cause our cleaning professionals to lose valuable work hours. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so at least 48 hours in advance to avoid cancellation fees.
