Mulgrave Parish, as it was then known, was first settled in 1839 by Thomas Napier, a Scottish Builder who initially reached the Colony of Victoria in the mid-1830s. Napier picked the banks of the Dandenong Creek and built his homestead in Bushy Park Wetlands, and what is now Jells Park. None of the initial homesteads stay, though some were demolished as late as the latter part of the 20th century. Remains of some homesteads have actually been discovered during the building and construction of the EastLink Tollway, temporarily halting work while they were archaeologically examined.

Mulgrave stayed a Parish until 19 January 1857 when it, and the neighbouring Parish of Oakleigh were gazetted as the Road District of Mulgrave and Oakleigh respectively. A Mulgrave Post Office opened on 1 January 1869 but was relabelled Wheelers Hill in 1888.

On 1 December 1871 additional modifications saw the 2 Road Districts merged to become the Shire of Oakleigh. For twenty years Mulgrave effectively stopped to exist until 1891 when, on 13 March, the Shire of Oakleigh was divided to form the Borough of Oakleigh and the Shire of Mulgrave. In 1904 Mulgrave Post Office reopened and closed again in 1956.

Throughout its history, Mulgrave has been afflicted by the shifting of its borders and the decrease of its total size. When land was moved from the Shire to Oakleigh, its borders remained relatively unchanged till 1949. This took place once again a years later on with the Shire of Mulgrave now minimized to 23 square miles (60 km2). As a part of the changes, workplaces for the Shire were opened in present-day Notting Hill.

What will a standard cleaning service include?

Every standard clean that we do is a whole house clean covering all areas including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, lounge & living rooms, laundry. You can choose to include add-ons to your clean such as oven cleaning, cleaning inside the fridge, and carpet cleaning and a range of other add-ons. What if I only want parts of my house cleaned?

In our booking form you can select to remove rooms from the clean if you dont want them included.
If your house is 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms select this initially, then tick the Part House Cleaning Only check box. You can then choose areas of you house you want to remove from the service.

Do I need to be present during the clean?

No you don't need to be home during the service.

Some customers do like to be home for the whole clean, some prefer to meet their cleaning professional first then get them to lock up when they are done.

As long as our cleaners have clear instructions on how to gain access into your home, we will take care of the rest. Many of our customers prefer to schedule their clean during the workday, so they can come home to a sparkling clean house.

Can I cancel anytime or is it an ongoing contract?

There are no lock in contracts with Sparkle and Shine. You are free to cancel or reschedule whenever you want so long as its not within 48 hours of a booking.

Last minute cancellations and reschedules cause our cleaning professionals to lose valuable work hours. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so at least 48 hours in advance to avoid cancellation fees.
