Mulgrave Parish, as it was then known, was first settled in 1839 by Thomas Napier, a Scottish Builder who first reached the Colony of Victoria in the mid-1830s. Napier settled on the banks the Dandenong Creek, and built his homestead in Bushy Park Wetlands and what is now Jells Park. Although none of the original homesteads are still standing, some were demolished in the latter half of the 20th century. Remains of some homesteads have been uncovered during the construction of the EastLink Tollway, temporarily halting work while they were archaeologically examined.

Mulgrave was a Parish until 19/01/1857, when it and the neighboring Parish of Oakleigh became the Road Districts of Mulgrave or Oakleigh. Mulgrave’s first post office opened on January 1, 1869, but it was renamed Wheelers Hill by 1888.

On 1 December 1871 further changes saw the two Road Districts merged to become the Shire of Oakleigh. Mulgrave was effectively dead for twenty years until the Shire of Oakleigh was merged to form the Borough of Oakleigh on 13 March 1891. In 1904 Mulgrave Post Office reopened and closed again in 1956.

Throughout its history, Mulgrave has been plagued by the shifting of its borders and the reduction of its total size. Its borders remained relatively unchanged until 1949 when land was transferred from the Shire to Oakleigh. The Shire of Mulgrave was redrawn to 23 square miles (60km 2). The Shire offices were moved to Notting Hill as part of these changes.

What will a standard cleaning service include?

Every standard clean that we do is a whole house clean covering all areas including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, lounge & living rooms, laundry. You can choose to include add-ons to your clean such as oven cleaning, cleaning inside the fridge, and carpet cleaning and a range of other add-ons. What if I only want parts of my house cleaned?

In our booking form you can select to remove rooms from the clean if you dont want them included.
If your house is 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms select this initially, then tick the Part House Cleaning Only check box. You can then choose areas of you house you want to remove from the service.

Do I need to be present during the clean?

No you don't need to be home during the service.

Some customers do like to be home for the whole clean, some prefer to meet their cleaning professional first then get them to lock up when they are done.

As long as our cleaners have clear instructions on how to gain access into your home, we will take care of the rest. Many of our customers prefer to schedule their clean during the workday, so they can come home to a sparkling clean house.

Can I cancel anytime or is it an ongoing contract?

There are no lock in contracts with Sparkle and Shine. You are free to cancel or reschedule whenever you want so long as its not within 48 hours of a booking.

Last minute cancellations and reschedules cause our cleaning professionals to lose valuable work hours. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so at least 48 hours in advance to avoid cancellation fees.
